The Morrison family has been involved in the whisky industry since 1951. In 2005, they partnered with the Mackay family to establish the Scottish Liqueur Centre, later renamed Morrison & Mackay.

Introduction:

Aberargie Distillery focuses on producing fruity and slightly smoky whiskies of high quality. The distillery exclusively uses fresh sherry and bourbon barrels for maturation, and the bottling is done by Morrison & MacKay.

Production:

Established in 2017, Aberargie Distillery currently produces 750,000 liters annually. It operates with two pot stills—a wash still with a capacity of 15,000 liters and a spirit still with a capacity of 10,000 liters. The distillery utilizes water from a specially drilled spring on-site, ensuring an adequate water supply for the production process.

The Pot Stills:

Aberargie’s pot stills have onion shapes with reflux bowls that enhance the separation of alcohol and water. The Lyne Arm descends slightly after the bend to produce a substantial whisky. The distillery combines traditional whisky-making methods with modern equipment and technology.

The Malting:

Aberargie prioritizes the use of local barley grown on its 120-hectare site. The malting process is carried out at the Simpson’s malt house in England. Additionally, Aberargie plans to produce limited editions of strongly smoky whisky to offer variety in its range.

The Warehouse:

Aberargie Distillery exclusively ages its whisky in fresh sherry and bourbon casks, which are stored on-site.

History:

The Morrison family has been involved in the whisky industry since 1951. In 2005, they partnered with the Mackay family to establish the Scottish Liqueur Centre, later renamed Morrison & Mackay. In 2014, the Morrisons independently founded the Perth Distilling Company and began constructing the Aberargie Distillery in 2016, located 30km away from the Morrison & Mackay bottling plant.
