Introduction:

Sadler’s Peaky Blinders McHickie is an Irish blended whiskey that pays homage to the iconic gangster era depicted in the Peaky Blinders TV series. The bottle features the image of gang member Stephen McHickie. This smooth whiskey is triple-distilled and produced in small batches. Notably, it matures exclusively in bourbon barrels, contributing to its flavor profile and character.

Another whiskey within the Peaky Blinders range is the Straight Bourbon Whiskey Alphonse Gabriel ‘Al’ Capone edition. This bourbon whiskey showcases the portrait of the notorious Mafia boss, Al Capone. The whiskey is crafted to embody the spirit and allure of the Prohibition era, synonymous with figures like Capone.

The Sadler’s Peaky Blinder Irish Whiskey Liqueur features the photograph of Henry Lighthouse, who holds historical significance in the context of the Peaky Blinders. Henry Lighthouse gained notoriety as the first individual to be referred to as a Peaky Blinder. This whiskey liqueur offers a unique and flavorful blend that captures the essence of the Peaky Blinders world.

The Peaky Blinders range of whiskies and liqueurs from Sadler’s pays tribute to the captivating characters and stories associated with the era, allowing enthusiasts to immerse themselves in the spirit of the time.

The Gin:

Sadler’s Peaky Blinder Spiced Dry Gin is crafted with a selection of nine botanicals, each contributing to its unique flavor profile. The gin prominently features the peppery notes of ginger and grains of paradise, also known as guinea pepper or melegua pepper. These botanicals take center stage, providing a distinct and flavorful experience.

The label of Sadler’s Peaky Blinder Spiced Dry Gin showcases the image of Thomas Gilbert, who later became known as Kevin Mooney. Thomas Gilbert, a notable figure within the Peaky Blinders gang, is immortalized on the label, paying homage to the rich history and captivating characters associated with the Peaky Blinders era.

With its carefully chosen botanicals and peppery flavor profile, Sadler’s Peaky Blinder Spiced Dry Gin offers a unique twist on the classic gin experience, inviting enthusiasts to savor the taste and immerse themselves in the world of the Peaky Blinders.

The Production:

As of the present, Halewood, the English company behind the Peaky Blinders range, does not possess its own distillery specifically dedicated to producing Whiskey and Gin for the brand. In 2017, Halewood acquired Sadler’s, but the company operates distilleries in various locations, including England, Scotland, Wales, Russia, South Africa, and Australia.

It’s worth noting that Halewood previously held a stake in West Cork Distillers, but this was subsequently repurchased by the Irish. Consequently, plans are being formulated to establish their own distillery in Ireland. This new facility will serve as the production site for the Peaky Blinders range, and the existing production facilities at Sadler’s Brewery in Lye will be relocated to this Irish distillery.

By establishing their own distillery in Ireland, Halewood aims to have more control over the production process and further align the Peaky Blinders brand with its Irish whiskey heritage. The planned distillery will enable Halewood to craft their Whiskey and Gin offerings in a dedicated and purpose-built facility, ensuring the quality and authenticity of the Peaky Blinders range.

The History:

The Sadler family established their brewery in 1861, supplying beers and spirits to their pubs located in the ‘Black Country’ region, which is situated to the north and west of Birmingham in England. The name Black Country likely originated from the air pollution caused by heavy industry, which resulted in soot and smoke permeating the area. It is believed that the pubs in this region were often frequented by members of the infamous Peaky Blinders street gang.

The brewery was initially founded by Nathaniel Sadler, and later Thomas Alexander Sadler took over and expanded the business. However, in 1927, Sadler’s Brewing ceased operations. It was not until 2004 that the brewery was revived by descendants of the Sadler family, with sixth-generation family member Chris Sadler leading the way.

In 2017, the Halewood company acquired the Sadler’s Brewing Company, including the naming rights for the ‘Peaky Blinder’ brand in both the beer and spirits categories. This acquisition allowed Halewood to continue the legacy of the Sadler family brewery and expand its reach under the iconic Peaky Blinders name.
